Pendulum (DJ Set) @ Czyżynalia, Kraków (17.05.2014)

Kraków's students festival 2014 edition. Two days of proper drinking, live music and party.

Eclectic line up, from hip-hop and rock to metal and dance. A bit of everything for everyone. Lots of bands performing but we're here to review the last show - Pendulum DJ Set.

Pendulum's El Hornet live and direct

What a gig it was!!! I am still buzzing a two days later! A perfect way to close the whole festival. Loud, fast, bassy, muddy and wet.

El Hornet, together with MC Verse, appeared on the stage at around 1am and from the very first track (Pendulum's Crush) took the audinece on a wicked ride over the heavy drum'n'bass tunes, electro-house and dubstep. Loads of music, considering the fact their gig was shortened to over an hour only (festival got to be finished at 2am - decision of Kraków's authorities). But that over 60 minutes were enough for the crowd to go mental; Verse was running there and back, jumping an hyping the crowd, El Hornet spinning records like crazy. Together with muddy field and rain it made the perfect combination for all gathered.

Very good selection of tunes throughout the whole set but two 'highlights; must be said: mashing up The Prodigy's Smack My Bitch Up (noisia remix) with Vulture by Pendulum and the same trick done a few minutes later with Pendulum's The Island (Part 2) and Internet Friends of Knife Party (which in fact is a side project of other two Pendulum's members: Rob Swire and Gareth MacGrillen) - damn, that was good...that was really good...

So yeah, loads of people can say that their music is shite but when it comes to live gigs - they still rock it like hell!

'Fuck it! I lied! It's drum'nbass! What you gonna do...?'

Kevlar Switch

Not much info can be found about this producer apart from that he is from Canada and besides music he's also into photography.

Speaking about Profane's music, his tunes are released by Inperspective Records - a lable which promotes, on a daily basis, such artists as Equinox, Sinistarr and Breakage - a world class speaking for itself.

And why we are talking about him? Cause in December last year Profane released his debut album V.illan Mills LP [Inperspective Records, INP 018] and what a  great record it is! Loads of old skool amen breaks, twisted basslines and extraordinary samples, first of all.

So it is nice to hear (and listen to) when someone sticks to the roots and is innovative enough to create against the current trends aiming, unfortunately, at bleeps and hi-hats only.

Ladies & Gentlemen. Prepare yourself for Canadian assault!
